There are FREE choices to jam and connect with other musicians online.
These sites use the EXACT SAME SOFTWARE and has the EXACT SAME chat room features, but they are FREE!! The only difference is these sites are promoted as Community Sites, because that's what all the sites that use this software really are. Not "real time" online playing sites that charge you $10 a month, like eJamming (or even $5, like a certain unnamed site, which is still way too high for what you get and what is available for FREE). Each one is separate and as far as I can tell are totally free. I know for a fact the first one is.

That's just a handful. There are more free sites that use the same chat room. Even if you did have to pay it shouldn't be nearly as much as they charge. And while these free sites may be new and empty, so was that one not long ago.
